Medicine In the Native American belief is anything that brings one closer to ones connection with himself and his greater source of power. A medicine bag would contain items such as stones, feathers, parts of sacred power animals, and anything else he would draw power from. It could contain items from loved ones and/or herbs for healing of the body, mind and spirit. These bags were also used to house their arrows and weapons, peace pipes or flutes. They were decorated in traditional designs done in beadwork or paint. Feathers, hair, leather, teeth, or other parts of animals were also used in the decoration of the bags.

Medicine Bags have been around for centuries in every cultures and in different forms. Each bag would contain a variety of elements that would hold a special meaning to the individual who possessed the bag. Sometimes mystical, sometimes spiritual, each bag had its purpose and meaning. To heal, tell story or to remind the individual of a memory, these bags were used for a variety of purposes. One author call the Medicine bag a “Portable Altar.

Drum Tote and Storage Bags

We have a selection of drum tote and storage bags to carry your hand drum or hoop drum to your drumming circles! They come in Tan, Red, Wine or Brown (colors are subject to availability of material) and are made with a heavy cotton material to insure durability. The small sized bag is tailored for our 3" X 13" hoop drums or even the small Grey Stoneware Drum (See Special Drums.) All of our drum bags have a strong leather drawstring closures and sport color-coordinated beads at the end of each drawstring. There is a large open side pocket on each bag for any accessories needed.

The medium sized drum bag will accomodate larger drums such as 13"X7" Peace Pipe Stripe Drum (See Our Handmade Drums page).

The large drum tote and storage bag (pictured below on White Eagle's shoulder) can hold the larger drums such as the Jungle Rhythms Drum, which is 13" in diameter and 15" high or the large Cheyenne Weave Drum (See Our Handmade Drums page) which is 13" in diameter, 12" or 18" high. In addition to protecting the drum, it will keep any leather treatment you may use from rubbing off and makes it a handy way to hand up the drum when not in use.
